miles' first drawing
here is a picture of miles working on his first drawing. it was on the magna doodle and the picture is blurry because he never stops moving but i had to record this.
kimbell art museum and the impressionists
i have been trying to figure out how i could go to the kimbell art museum to see the new impressionist exhibit, the age of impressionism: great french paintings from the clark well it just happened that this weekend they had a family festival and you could go see the exhibit, which is normally $14 a person, for FREE. so i packed up audrey, gave her the rules and tried to get her excited about the art museum.
it started off good. we watched a performance by the texas ballet theater school. audrey loved the ballerinas. then we headed off to see some paintings. audrey was not so excited about this but i tried to get her involved by asking her to tell me which ones she liked (turns out she didnt like many, or maybe she was just bored). we did get reprimanded because audrey almost touched a painting. i had it under control but the lady was alittle anal.
then we did an art activity which i enjoyed but was alittle hard for audrey and she lost it for a moment and started crying. after mopping up her face we went to see the impressionist exhibit. i knew that i couldnt linger and really look at stuff so i tried to move quickly and just stop at the paintings i really wanted to see. it was also quite crowded so that dampened my enthusiasm. but i got to see it. yeah!!
then we were off to the other 2 art activities and then home. all in all it was a fun mommy/daughter afternoon, and it was all FREE!
here are some pictures of audrey and i with our "art". audrey took the ones of me.

teaching your kids about easter
i saw this on someone else's blog but i do love this book for its simple but good telling of the true story of easter for young kids. the blog said that you can use colored jelly beans to make the book and story come more to life. audrey loved the jelly beans. :)
i also did an easter advent idea for audrey counting down the 12 days until easter. i will blog about that one later.
(and i just added this picture because it is so cute how audrey is "reading" to miles)

easter 2012, the one that we were sick
well this easter 3 out of the 4 in my family were sick. so we didnt make it to church but we did make it to a family dinner (we asked if they minded us being sick, they were willing to risk it). here is what my kids wore and they looked so cute. i wanted to take pictures of at least audrey in front of our beautiful irises but it just didnt happen.
we made lamb cupcakes for the dinner. they didnt turn out as cute as i had hoped, i will get bigger chocolate sprinkles for ears next time. but they did taste great.

butterfly exhibit
today we went to see the butterfly exhibit at the botanical gardens. it was pretty amazing to see all those BEAUTIFUL butterflies that God has made. i liked to see the ones that when their wings are closed they resemble an owl face but when their wings are open they have a pretty blue color inside. audrey enjoyed it and miles tolerated it (its hard when you are either stuck in the stroller or strapped to mommy in a sling). im glad we were able to go.
here are some pictures:
a monarch just hours old from its chrysallisand my two butterflies (miles just loved it, can you tell?!)
